Netflix’s Wednesday is officially a smash hit! The show has crossed the 1 billion view mark, making it one of the most-watched shows on Netflix ever. It comes as no surprise then that Wednesday Season 2 it set to be renewed pretty soon.
The Jenna Ortega-led series has notched a notable milestone in less than a month since it’s November 23 release – becoming just the third series to surpass 1 billion watched hours. Wednesday vaulted past Dahmer and is now the second most-watched US show behind Stranger Things Season 4.
As noted by Deadline, Wednesday Season 2 is well and truly in the works, with renewal expected in the new year as producers and writers plot the future of the series:
A renewal is thought to be inevitable, although sources expect that will come in the new year rather than before the end of the year. Producers are starting to talk to writers about joining the second season’s writers’ room and mulling season two locations, and even though MGM has been restructured into Amazon Studios, under Jen Salke, no one expects that to derail future seasons. While there are things the two new partners will have to work out, insiders expect renewal talks to go pretty smoothly.
We expect Wednesday to be renewed soon enough, potentially in time for a late 2023 release, though a premiere in 2024 is perhaps more reasonable. We also wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a third season to follow if the show continues its current momentum and appeal. Watch this space.
