No power vacuum here. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 renewal is coming soon, according to Amazon. The streaming company has confirmed that a third season of the fantasy drama is set to be announced in the very near future.
Vernon Sanders, Head of Global TV for Amazon Studios, has revealed that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be renewed for Season 3 in the new year.
With filming well under way on Season 2, fans seemingly won’t have long to wait for positive news on Season 3, per Deadline:
It’s a great question about Season 3, we’re probably two to three months in on Season 3 but I think there could be news certainly in the new year. There’s so much planning and prep that’s necessary for us to get this mounted that the only reason we probably haven’t gotten there quite yet is we’ve just been so heads down in Season 2, but I would expect there to be news in the new year.
The news gets better for fans of the divisive series – showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have a 5 season plan to complete the story, and Amazon are apparently “committed” to fulfilling that objective:
We are absolutely committed [to the 5 season story arc], we have every reason to be excited. The [executive producers have] done a tremendous job.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 is expected to arrive in late 2023 or early 2024, with the latter being more likely. A third season would likely arrive in late 2024/2025.
