La Brea is not for sinking quite yet. The series has been renewed for a third season on NBC.

The science-fiction drama stars Natalie Zea, Eoin Macken, Jon Seda, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chiké Okonkwo, Zyra Gorecki, Jack Martin, Veronica St. Clair, Rohan Mirchandaney, Lily Santiago, Josh McKenzie, Tonantzin Carmelo and Michelle Vergara Moore.

The early renewal announcedment, however, isn’t without a tinge of apprehension.

It’s being reported that La Brea Season 3 will be a shortened 6-episode installment that could very well be the last in the show’s run.

The prospect of ‘pre-cancellation’ heavily influenced by the looming possibility of a writers and/or directors and actors strike.

Per Deadline:

NBC approached the cast of La Brea about doing a short third season. Because the series regulars have a 10-episode minimum guarantee (meaning that they have to be paid at least 10 episodic fees a season regardless of how many episodes are produced), the network and sister studio Universal Television asked the cast to reduce their contractual minimum guarantees to six episodes, sources said. In exchange, I hear the actors were offered a release from the show after Season 3 — which they took — making them available to take other jobs.

  1. I have no problem ending the series with a short season (which is what it sounds like they are saying, without actually saying it.) This will give the writers the ability to write a conclusive ending and not let it draw out longer than the story needs ir dwindle into repetitiveness.
